Product Stewardship & Waste Minimisation
Mad World has produced one of the first comprehensive studies in the world into how companies can create a more sustainable supply chain and the business benefits for doing this.
This guide was commissioned by the New Zealand Business Council for Sustainable Development. (NZBCSD)
The NZBCSD guide is designed to explain the business case for reviewing and auditing an organisation's supply chain and to provide practical tools that can be adapted by individual companies to meet their own needs. These include templates for codes of practice to be used with suppliers as well as internal assessment tools.

Product Stewardship
We have helped our clients develop programmes which meet the product stewardship requirements of the NZ Waste Minimisation Act (2008) and to seek funding from the Waste Minimisation Fund. For example:-
Huggies & Envirocomp Solution
Working with Kimberly-Clark NZ to sponsor and promote the Huggies & Envirocomp nappy composting plant which is the world’s first commercial composting plant for nappies and incontinence products and is based in Canterbury. This shows just what can be achieved when small business, Kiwi technology, local councils are supported by a major corporate like Kimberly-Clark.
Envirocomp has recently been awarded funding from the Waste Minimisation Fund to plan the next stage of its growth plan in Wellington.

Glass Packaging Forum
The Glass Packaging Forum which is one of the few organizations that operates a voluntary levy on its members who either make, fill or sell products in glass containers to help fund the recovery of these containers at the end of their life and to promote recycling. This is one of the best examples of product stewardship which has been recognized by being one of the first organizations to be accredited by the Government under the Waste Minimisation Act.
